Chapter 2 Emily sadly entered her hotel room and threw room key on the table by the door. She was exhausted from her visit with Nikolas. The phone rang and she dragged herself to the bed next to the bed, “Hello?” "Emily Bowen-Quartermaine!” A voice snapped on the other end. Emily sighed with a sorry face, “Liz! Hi! I know. I'm sorry I didn't come back. I just… um… I'm not feeling too well and I had a few unsuspecting visits with old… acquaintances." "Oh,” Liz hissed, “That doesn't sound good." Emily took off her shoes pressing the phone in between her shoulder and ear, “Good, because it wasn't." Liz sat on her couch with the phone in hand, “What happened?" Emily pulled back the covers and laid on her side, “Something horrible.” Emily mumbled pulling the covers over herself. Liz gasped, “Oh my god. You didn't see…"Liz trailed off. Emily finished for her, “Yea, I saw Nikolas Cassadine." Liz inhaled deeply, “Oh, I am so sorry. No wonder you didn't come back. Are you ok?" "I'm fine, now, actually.” Emily exhaled with a sad face, “It just would have helped if he had grey hair, dentures, and horrible facial deformations." Liz laughed sympathetically, “Aw, Emily. I'm so sorry. What can I do for you?" Emily smiled to herself realizing how just the sound of her Liz's voice calmed her, “I'm fine, Sis.” Emily laughed saying the common nickname they had for each other. "You sure?" "Yes! I'm just kind of tired right now." "Why don't we talk tomorrow, Em? We could began to plan and everything. Lucky should be back any minute now anyway.” Liz blurted out without thinking. "Where is he?" "He went out to ask someone to be his best man.” Liz answered happily since Lucky had finally decided. "And who's that?” Emily panicked thinking the worst. "I don't know. He told me he'd tell me when he got back.” Liz responded and they both made a surprised and anguished look on each end, “You're not thinking what I'm thinking are you?" "Yes, I am. And knowing Lucky… it's exactly the right thing to think.” Emily said with a long sigh. Meanwhile at Wyndemere… "Nikolas, I told you why I'm here.” Lucky was trying to convince Nikolas that it wasn't a joke as he followed Nikolas out onto the parapet. "You really don't expect me to believe that you want me to be your best man at your wedding, do you?” Nikolas laughed crossing his arms and turning to his brother. Lucky grinned with anger, “Just tell me.” Nikolas looked at him seriously, “Will you be my best man?" Nikolas smiled and shook Lucky's hand, “It would be honor." Lucky let out a slight laugh before giving his brother a hug. They'd only hugged a few times but it got easier every time. The next day Nikolas and Lucky went to get fitted for their tuxes and Emily and Liz went to get fitted for their dresses. What they didn't know was that the stores were right next to each other. Liz finished with her dress and noticed the seamstress still fussing with Emily. Liz unzipped her dress and put on her plain purple shirt and black overalls before going over to Emily, “What's going on?" "This seamstress keeps poking me!” Emily exclaimed and then felt another poke, “Ow!" "Only because she keeps moving!” The seamstress snapped. Emily gave the seamstress a frown, “Fine, I'll keep perfectly still and I feel one more poke I will sue the pants off you!” She retaliated and stood straight. Meanwhile… Lucky and Nikolas were finishing up. Nikolas looked in the mirror at his brother who inhaled deeply, “So, do you think she'll like it?” Lucky asked looking at the tux in the mirror. Nikolas laughed slightly as he grinned, “She loves you. Her standards for your tux aren't very high. She probably thinks you'll good in a chicken suit." Lucky chuckled nervously, “I know I just… want everything to be perfect, you know? I've never known anyone like Elizabeth and I have never and will never love anyone like I do her. I want this wedding to be everything she hoped for.” Nikolas felt overwhelmed by the brotherly feelings Lucky was sharing with him. Together they had stopped the whole Cassadine/Spencer feud for the next generation and even learned to like each other. Nikolas placed his hand on Lucky's shoulder, “It will be. Guaranteed." Lucky gave a nod, “You're right. I'm probably just worrying about nothing." "Right.” Nikolas agreed with a wider grin before they put their tuxes away and headed out the door. He and Lucky were laughing when Nikolas paused, “So, when are you going to tell me who the maid of honor is? Because I am probably going to spend 90% of my time with this woman." Back at the bridal shop… "Ok, now I'm finished can we just go!?” Emily said still piercing the seamstress with her dirty look as they exited. Liz was laughing the whole time, “Emily Bowen-Quartermaine! Do you ever knock it off!?" "Only when I sleep.” Emily replied with a wide smile. And turned the corner with their laughter still filling the air. They stopped when they saw Lucky and Nikolas standing there. Nikolas was trying to ask something and Lucky looked really uncomfortable until Liz squealed, “Lucky!” As she ran to him and embraced him in a big hug. Emily hurried over to them trying to avoid Nikolas’ look. Liz pulled away and gave Lucky a big kiss. Emily and Nikolas shared a mutual amusement listening to them argue about who missed the other more. Lucky finally just let Liz win and they kissed again. Emily turned to Nikolas and jokingly wrapped her arm around his shoulder, “I missed you." Nikolas played along and wrapped his arm around her waist, “I missed you more." "No, I missed you more.” Emily and Nikolas mocked Liz and Lucky who just gave them an annoyed look. They burst into laughter as Liz and Lucky gave them that annoyed look. Liz wrapped her arms around Lucky's neck, “I think they're making fun of us." Lucky shrugged, “Who cares? They're just jealous." "Oh please, I can't speak for Nikolas over here but I can tell you I am not jealous.” Emily defended. Lucky cleared his throat, “I think we should tell them." "Are you sure?” Liz questioned. Emily frowned, “Uh oh. Is it just me or are you getting a bad feeling about this too, Nikolas?" Nikolas crossed his arms, “I am definitely getting a bad feeling about this." Liz turned to Emily, “Emily." "Nikolas,” Lucky turned to Nikolas as Liz did, “Meet the maid of honor.” Lucky said to a wide eyed Nikolas. Emily placed her hands on her hips, “I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say Nikolas is the best man.” Emily and Nikolas gave Liz and Lucky dirty looks not believing they had let them get into the wedding this deep before telling them. Liz and Lucky let out a nervous laugh as Nikolas looked over at Emily's furious face.
