Chapter 2 Carly brushed her hair one last time and put the brush back in her backpack. She looked down at her clothes her favorite black jeans and long sleeved yellow shirt. She had on her cross that meant a lot to her and a few of her silver bracelets. She made sure she had her trusty back up plan and was ready. She couldn't believe she was going to do this. She was going to some party that Jason and Bobbie were having at Luke's to welcome Carly back. Hoping that maybe some of it will boost her memory. Carly wasn't so sure. A lot can change in fourteen years. Michael knocked on the door, "Can I come in?" "Sure." Carly smiled. Michael walked in with an old dress Carly use to have, "I thought you might want something to wear." Michael shrugged. "I may have agreed to go with you to figure out if I'm your mom and I may have even agreed to go to this stupid party but I will never, never agree to wear a dress." She made a disgusted face, "I don't do dresses." Michael giggled, "Ok. I won't make you wear a dress." "No one can make me wear a dress. "Carly added. Michael grinned, "Well if you won't wear the dress we can get going." Carly shrugged and stuck her hands in her pockets, "Whatever." Michael playfully pushed Carly into the hall but they both stopped when they heard Bobbie and Jason talking downstairs. They peeked around the corner and Carly signaled Michael to be quiet. Michael nodded. Bobbie hugged Jason and pulled away, "Are you ok?" Jason shook his head, "How can I be? The woman I loved, the woman I thought was dead, is alive. She doesn't remember me or her son… I mean… how is that ok?" Bobbie understood completely, "Yeah and I finally got a relationship with her and she was suppose to be dead but now she's back and she doesn't remember me either." Carly had a sad look on her face and Michael whispered, "They just miss her that's all." Carly had a tear begin to fall but she wiped it away, "Yeah, well, everyone seems to be a little disappointed that I'm not Carly. I mean say what you want I'm not. I have none of her memories and it's making everyone upset." "You’re not here for everyone else. Your here for me." Michael reminded her. "Yeah, I am." Carly went downstairs with Michael. Bobbie hugged Carly which was very awkward and Jason simply nodded at Carly. Jason drove, Bobbie sat in the passenger’s seat, and Carly sat with Michael in the back. Carly whispered to Michael, "So, Kid I hear you don't have a mom." Carly joked. Michael smiled at her gesture, "Nope, I don't have a mother." "Me neither." Carly's smile quickly faded, "Doesn't mean people haven't tried." Michael frowned along with Bobbie and Jason who heard her last words, "What do you mean?" Carly grinned, "It's long story." She replied and looked out the car window. She rolled it down and breath in the fresh air. "I hope I'll hear it one day." Carly turned back to him, "I think you will." She said and unarkwardly for the first time hugged Michael. Michael gladly excepted but Jason and Bobbie were still puzzled with what she had said. They stepped into Luke's and Carly recognized absolutely no one. They sat down at a booth close to the entrance. Bobbie and Jason went to confront Luke while Michael stayed with Carly. Carly looked around in awe of the lights, setting, and picture of a woman? Carly's eyes widen and she turned to Michael, "Who's that?" Michael laughed, "Oh that's Helena Cassadine. Luke hung up as a joke but won't take it down." "Does he like Helena?" Carly asked. Michael shook his head quickly, "Not at all. They have a mutual disgust for each other. He's just kind of sticking it to her." Michael looked at Carly and knew there was a lot she had to know, "Ok let's get started." Michael started to point to people in the room, "That over there is your Uncle Luke Spencer and his wife Laura. Right beside them is your cousin Lucky Spencer and his wife the former Ms. Elizabeth Webber, they’re married and have there own Spencers. Now this right here is an interesting situation in time your going to learn that Cassadines and Spencers hate each other. But Laura gave birth to a Cassadine so we have one in our family. That right there is Nikolas Cassadine and Emily Quartermaine. Well, Emily is my aunt and she's great but she's in love with Nikolas, which is very weird. Nikolas is here because of Emily and Laura." Carly laughed, "Does Luke always look like that?" Michael sighed, "No, he's just mad cause Cassadine’s here. You can actually see his veins pop out." Michael smiled and then continued, "That right there is your brother, my uncle, Lucas. He's a big brother to me he's real cool." Carly noticed that the place was pretty empty but she looked at Jason and Bobbie. She pointed, "Tell me about them." Michael cleared his throat that's your mom Bobbie Spencer. She is very nice. She takes care of me a lot especially since I didn't have a mom around. And my dad… well what do you want to know?" Carly looked at Jason in admiration, "What's he like?" Michael liked the way she looked at Jason, "Dad's nice as he can be. He never treats me like a kid. I've always been his equal as long as I can remember. He's loyal, he never let's his family down. Sometimes he can be over protective but he really does care. He loves me and the other members of the family with everything has and he would do anything for them." Michael explained a lot but Carly wanted to know more. "What was Carly to him?" Michael smiled, "She was everything." Carly turned to him, "Really?" "Yeah, he finally realized he loved her but he was too late." "That's horrible." "Yeah it is." Michael agreed and then his face got pale and he whispered, "Oh no." "What? What?!" Carly asked and followed Michael's gaze, "Who's that?" Jason was talking with a man and he seemed very angry. Their conversation seemed to be getting heated. No one else uttered a word while those two argued. Carly frowned. "Mom," Michael sighed, "That's the devil. He is pure evil and he never dies." Michael told her and they got out of the booth to walk over to Jason's side. "What do you want, Edward?" Jason repeated for the last time. Edward acted gentle when he saw Carly, "Why hello. Oh I am so happy your alive dear." Carly looked at either side of her. Michael was on one side looking mad and Jason was doing the same on the other side of her, "Who are you?" Carly snapped. She was beginning to trust Michael's judgement and if he didn't trust Edward or like him then neither did she. "I am so sorry that you don't remember anything. My name is Edward Quartermaine." He introduced himself. Carly looked at Jason and Michael but was so surprised to be shaking Edward's hand, "Your Edward Quartermaine! Oh my god, I can't believe I'm shaking your hand. I read about you in the papers all the time." "Well, they tend to write about the Quartermaine's a lot." Edward laughed. "Not the stuff that matters. Not what's true." Jason said and told Edward one last time, "Get out." Edward nodded. He pulled out a card from his pocket, "My dear, call me if you ever need anything." "Oh, thank you." Carly smiled taking his card. Edward exited and Jason saw Carly's amazed look, "He's a snake, Carly." Carly looked at Jason but then at Michael, "What's wrong with him?" "He's evil. He's like a disease that people occasionally get and do everything they can to get rid of it. He also kidnapped me when I was a kid!" Michael exclaimed. "What?!" "Well, he had a court order but it was still kidnapping! Dad's plane crashed and the Quartermaine's took me away of course that was until dad got back." Michael said and crossed his arms. "Then he's no friend of mine." Carly said and ripped up the card. Michael smiled and the family began to talk. Carly was sick of all the questions that she couldn't answer. They would all bring up memories hoping maybe something would click but nothing did. Carly excused herself for a moment and she went into the restroom. The rest of them felt bad and sat in silence before Michael asked, "What are we doing to her?" Carly rubbed water on her face and wiped it off. She sighed and pulled out a small piece of paper that had a number on it. Carly walked outside of the bathroom and stepped over to the phone right next to it. She quickly dialed the number and turned her back to the crowd's talking. Michael saw that she was calling somebody and entered the hallway. He heard Carly's end of the conversation, "Hi! It's me. Yeah. I'm fine on the road as usual. Don't worry I'm getting by. I wish you wouldn't worry." Carly sighed into the phone, "I know, ok. But…" Carly started but apparently was stopped by whoever was on the other end, "Ok, whatever. Are you ok? Good. And Paige? Uh-huh. Tell her I'm fine. In fact I think I might have struck gold. I was at the bus station and decided to go to some town. Turns out this might be what I've been looking. What I've been searching for. Imagine me settling down. But I found what I was looking for. I know." Carly ran a hand halfway through her hair, "I know you wanted me to come back but we knew that was never going to happen. Of course I'll tell you if it worked out. Tell Paige to stop worrying ok? I'll call or write soon, ok? Yeah… me too. Goodbye." Carly said and took a second to hang up the phone. Michael felt a little sad. Who was she talking to? Struck gold? Was she there for money? Michael felt his heart sink and he ran out of Luke's. Carly walked out and saw Michael run out. Jason came up to Carly, "What happened?" "I don't know." Carly shrugged. They left then. The night was doing nobody any good.
