-Chapter-19-"Fantasy Land" Kevin: What? Why? Why do I have to go into the dimension? Victor was silent for moment. Kevin: Well? Victor: I was hoping I would never have to tell you this, Monk… I didn't want you to have to find out, but now I see it was inevitable. Kevin: What? What was inevitable? Victor: Your mother was there the day Dr. Burt went into the dimension. She was a jealous woman, sure I was having an affair… and before you interrupt me, this was before Helena. Your mother found her way into the transporting room when the accident happened. Melanie was very close to the transporter when it happened. There was a small explosion and I was afraid that she had lost our baby… We rushed her to the hospital to make sure Ryan was fine. Kevin was very confused. Baby instead of babies? Why did he just say Ryan's name? Victor: The last time she was examined, she was carrying one child… but after what happened, she had too. Kevin: What are you saying? It wasn't really much of a question, he knew exactly what he was saying. Victor: You are from the other dimension. Somehow you were transferred from the fetus of your real mother and placed into Melanie's. Why Ryan didn't switch with you, I can never understand… but the fact is, you are from this dimension and its world is seeking you through the wider rip. The only way to keep the rip stable is for you to go back to your homeworld. ~"~ Lizzie looked at the Keeper of the Dreamscape and almost fainted. He looked so familiar, but she couldn't place him. The others had a sense of deja vu, but she had more then that. Then she thought back to when she woke up into the new world… She had had nightmare, she was in a dark room, but that was all she could remember. Keeper: Hello, again, Elizabeth. Lizzie: How did you know my name? Keeper: We've met before… I'm not surprised you don't remember though. Emily: Who are you? Keeper: I told you, Keeper of the Dreamscape. Sarah: The Dreamscape? What the heck is the Dreamscape? Keeper: This… Everything that belongs here. Emily: A dreamscape… Is this all a dream? Keeper: Not quite… It is the things dreams are made of, though. You see, you have all been here every night for all over your lives… Physically not, but mentally, you were. Lizzie: So this is the dream world? Keeper: Right. Sarah: But… I don't get it… Emily: Who's dream is this? Keeper: Why, Doctor Burt's. He concocted this whole place. It began as any dream, but he was soon able to figure out how to control everything. This was basically the life he wanted… for awhile… Every fantasy was now a reality, and that is not a good thing here. Everything became more and more real, and now he wanted to get out. Originally, he could have dreamed of a way out, but since he lost control, he couldn't. He had to play by the rules he created. Lizzie: But… What about us? Dr. Burt didn't know everyone we knew. Keeper: Dr. Burt wasn't all that much imaginative. He created people he already knew. He patterned a lot of his fantasies on the real world, because of that, the dreamscape molded itself in the image of the world he knew. The people were being recreated. How they turned out was beyond Burt's control, because he had turned this into somewhat of a reality. The dreamscape started to pattern a realistic way for each character he created to end up the way they were now, a way that would make sense in Dr. Burt's mind. Thus, a new world was created. Lizzie: Okay… I am really having a hard time figuring that out, but how can we still be here if Dr. Burt's dead. Doesn't that mean the dream should go with him? Keeper: My dear Elizabeth, that is a very good question… The answer is no. It can't simply go away when people are still dreaming it. Lizzie: Can't we just dream something different? Keeper: That just doesn't work. Not with all the conflicting minds involved. Since Dr. Burt was the only one here, it was easy to dream something else, but with two or more people… no. Emily: All right, so let's get to a more important question- How do we get out of here? Keeper: That's up to your side of the world. Emily: Huh? I thought you said you were going to fix everything… Keeper: What I meant was that I would patch the rip. Dr. Burt made the technology to cross into reality impossible while he was still loving this world. We need to count on your world to realistically take care of this problem. Emily: Why are the worlds colliding, anyway? Keeper: Lizzie explained it quite perfectly already. Fantasy needs to be with fantasy, and reality needs to be with reality. Reality is just trying to reclaim what theirs… the problem is, the worlds will collide and fantasy and reality will be completely mixed up and everything, even I, will cease to exist. Emily: Oh my God… Keeper: Not even He can save us now.
