Chapter Twenty Two The next day, Tiffany and Bobbie took Lulu and Lucas to the park. They met Carly and Michael there. Sean and Luke spent time at the club, while Lucky had agreed to see Lizzie, Sly, and Emily and spend the day together. Lucky had asked Nikolas if he wanted to join them yesterday and he was surprised that Nikolas had wanted to. It was strange but he kind of liked having Nikolas around. The teens met at the docks and even with Johnny hanging close by, they had fun in the beginning. Tiffany, Bobbie, and Carly were sitting on the bench as the kids played. Lucas was pushing Michael in the swing. "Are you two comfortable with them around all the time?" Tiffany asked pointing to the bodyguards. "Sonny doesn't let me out of the penthouse without them," Carly said glancing over in Michael's direction. The fear of going back and telling Sonny she lost Michael was enough to keep her mind on her son. "And with the attempt on Lucky's life, Luke isn't taking any chances with Lulu, at least while she is in his care. Laura refuses to let Sonny's men near her and she even filed a restraining order to make sure of it," Bobbie added. "What's Luke doing to protect Lu, then?" Tiffany asked. "Fighting for full custody is what he is doing. He only puts someone on Laura when she has Lu. Other than that, the woman is on her own," Bobbie said coldly. The thought of her ex sister in-law just made her angry. "I heard what Laura did and I'm still trying to figure this out. Why would she tell her son about his friends' deaths so soon after he woke up?" Tiffany asked, biting her lip to keep herself from telling them the truth. "I'm sick of trying to get into that woman's head. She has done nothing but try and destroy Lucky ever since this mess all began. He has reached out to her time and again and all she does is knock him down," Bobbie said her words were dipping with venom. "What happened to the Laura Spencer we all knew?" Tiffany asked. "She went on vacation and never came back," Bobbie said sarcastically. "I feel for Lucky. The little time I spent with him when he came to rehab. I see how much pain he's in. He hardly said two words to me or anyone," Carly said. "He isn't eating much, either. Luke's really beginning to worry," Bobbie added. "I noticed he looked skinny but I thought it was because of the accident," Tiffany replied. "Partly, yes, but some of it is because he refuse to eat. Lucky eats sometimes but other times he doesn't," Bobbie told the two of them. "Luke's the one I'm worried about. He doesn't sleep and I have to constantly remind him to eat. I don't know who is worse, father or son." "Father," Tiffany said, "I can see the tension in him from five miles away." "Tell me about it," Carly said with a sad laugh. "He just growls at most people and they are the lucky ones," "Sonny tried to get him to relax, but sex only goes so far with Laura around," Bobbie said. "What?" Both Carly and Tiffany asked looking at her for more details. "Carly, you met Tammy that works for Ruby right?" Bobbie asked her daughter. "Yes. What does she have to do with Uncle Luke?" Carly asked looking at her mother strangely. "She is an ex-hooker and Sonny set Luke up with her. The reason she is working for Ruby is Luke offered her a way off the streets," Bobbie explained. Luke's reason was still ringing in her ear and she couldn't help but laugh at him. He must felt really guilty to do what he did. "I see what Sonny did but it didn't last long did it," Tiffany said trying not to laugh but it was hard. "No. With not Lucky going back into surgery and telling him about the past. The tension Luke has been feeling has only gotten worse," Bobbie said. "What do we do?" Tiffany asked. "He doesn't need a roll in the hay. He needs someone to stand by him all the time," Bobbie said her match making mind starting to work. "Who you got in mind," Carly asked wondering what poor lady her mother had in mind for Uncle Luke. "Tammy is Okay, but I don't think she can handle Luke twenty four hours a day. I do know someone that matches wits with my brother and sometime gets the better of him," Bobbie said with a sly smile on her face. "Who?" Tiffany asked wondering what women beside Laura got the better of Luke. "Alexis Davis. Problem one, she is related to the Cassadines and problem two, she is seeing Ned Ashton," Bobbie explained. "I can't get rid of problem one, but two maybe. Wasn't Ned married to Brenda's friend Lois?" Carly asked. "Yes, why?" Bobbie asked her daughter. "Okay, If I tell you this you have to keep it a secret until the party Sonny is having this weekend," Carly said to the two women. "We promise. What is it?" Bobbie and Tiffany said biting at the bit for any kind of news on her penthouse life. "Brenda is going to have a baby and Lois is coming to help her at least for a year. She can't run L&B alone any more because they have gotten so big. Sonny has asked Lois to come home and help her out. He even set her up in Katherine's old penthouse," Carly said looking around to make sure Sonny's men don't over hear her telling this. "Sonny's going to be a daddy? I can't wait to see every ones faces," Bobbie said wondering what you get a mob boss kid for a present, bulletproof diapers? "You can't tell them. Sonny would kill me if he found out I told this. He puts up with Michael and me only for Jason's sake. He would have thrown us out long ago," Carly said pleading them not to talk. "I won't tell," Bobbie said. "Me neither. I keep secrets very well," Tiffany said thinking of the big one she was hiding right now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lucky watched as Lizzie and Emily played a video game. Nikolas and Sly had gone to get something to drink for them. “I’m just about out of money,” Lizzie said, batting her eyes at Lucky. “I’ll be right back. I have to get some change but this should hold you over until later,” Lucky said placing some quarters on the table and walked off to find a change machine. He looked at Johnny and waved him off. He thought he wouldn’t need a bodyguard just to get change. He found a change machine outside the door and Lucky had just finishing breaking two fives when his mother tapped him on the shoulder. “You’re wasting your money on video games. Don’t you have better things to do with your money!” Laura said, in a cold voice. “What do you care?” Lucky asked. Looking over Laura and noticed the changes in his mother. Something was wrong but he just didn’t know what. “I care more than your father does,” Laura said, her voice getting colder. “I have to go,” Lucky said, turning his back on her and heading inside. He suddenly saw the signs of this side of his mother and decided to get lost. He hardly saw her in this mood but when he did, it never turned out too well for him. “You’re not going anywhere,” Laura said, grabbing him by the shoulder and turning him around. Lucky froze looking around for Johnny but he suddenly realized he left him back with the girls. “What do you want?” Lucky asked, finally getting his voice to work. He was trying to figure a way out of this mess. “I want respect from you, to begin with,” Laura said, grabbing him by the shoulder. Ignoring his grimace of pain, she tried to shove him further down the street but a voice from the crowd stopped her. "Let him go!" Nikolas said as he suddenly showed up. "Nikolas, I was going to talk to Lucky in private," Laura said, her mood changed in seconds and she acted as if she didn't know what was going on. "Yeah right," Lucky said moving back and putting distance between him and his mother. Lucky just wanted her out of his life for good. Her mood swings were getting worse and he was tired of trying to figure her out. He went inside the arcade and left Nikolas to deal with their mother. "I don't get you and at this moment I don't care. You're not my mother and I don't want anything to do with you. I hope Luke wins full custody of Lucky and Lu, because if he doesn't, I really pity them," Nikolas said and headed back inside to find Lucky. Lucky was in the hallway by the pay phones. He had his head against the wall, trying to figure out what he did to set her off this time. "What?" Lucky asked, looking at him as if he was ready to blow. "I've never seen her like that. What did you say to her?" Nikolas asked. "Me?! Nikky boy, I got a news flash for you. When mom gets in one of those moods, you could walk too hard and she would blow up," Lucky said, sliding to the floor and pulling his legs close to his chest. Nikolas joined him on the floor and said, "I thought Luke would be the one with weird mood swings," Nikolas said. "Dad? You got him all wrong. Dad might yell a lot at people that he doesn't like, but his family is another story. He is also easy to read and I know when to talk to him and when to stay back. Mom was always a different story," Lucky said. "Has Luke seen this side of mom?" Nikolas asked. "No. She was always nice and normal around dad. It was only when I was alone with her that she got this way," Lucky said, leaning his head back against the wall. Nikolas watched as his brother tried to calm down. "Have you ever told him or anyone?" Nikolas asked. "No. I didn't want to make trouble. I always thought it was something I did. I would disappear until she would get back to normal or until dad came home. It was safer that way," Lucky said looking at Nikolas with a weird look on his face. "Has she ever hit you?" Nikolas asked, beginning to get really worried about where this conversation was going. "Once or twice, but it was just a slap across the face. She normally just yelled at me for hours and would tell me how worthless I was. Dad would come back and she would act as if nothing had happened. I learned to stick close to dad and hide when he wasn't around," Lucky said, after a long pause. "And I wanted to be you," Nikolas said, putting an arm around his brother. "If you figure out who Lucky is then you can," Lucky said, looking at Nikolas with sad eyes. "You really do have it bad, don't you?" Nikolas said, pulling him to his feet. "Come on, I think it is time to talk to Luke." "It would just cause more trouble," Lucky said pulling away. "Trouble. You? Lucky what are you talking about?" Nikolas said, as he tried to get Lucky to look at him. "You aren't trouble. Laura is the trouble not you. Talk to your father and tell him what is going on and what has been going on." "I don't know if I can. I barley admit it to myself," Lucky said, his eyes began to water. "I'll come with you and I won't leave until you tell me to," Nikolas said as he guided Lucky out of the hall. He went to find the others. "Lucky and I are going to talk to Luke. We'll see you later." Nikolas said, as they neared the group by one of the video games. "Lucky, are you all right?" Lizzie asked him when Lucky refused to look at any of them. "No. He isn't and hasn't been for a long time. Sly, can you take the girls home?" Nikolas asked. This was the first time Nikolas had seen his brother the way he really was and not the person he pretended to be. "Sure," Sly said, as Lucky and Nikolas both left with a very confused Johnny close at their heels "What happened?" Emily asked as she pulled Sly closer to her. "I don't know but I'm going to find out. You two with me?" Lizzie asked. "Why not? Home by the way of the club?" Sly asked. "Let's go!" Lizzie said and the teens quickly left. Nikolas pulled into the parking lot and Sly and the others pulled along side of him. "We can't go home until we find out what is going on," Sly said as they climbed out of the car. "It's up to Lucky," Nikolas said, looking in Lucky's direction. "Why not? They are going to find out sooner or later," Lucky said, as he climbed out of the car and headed into the club. Luke, Sonny, and Sean were sitting at the bar when the group walked in. "Lucky, what's wrong?" Luke asked, as he saw the look on his son's face. "Can we go in your office and talk?" Lucky asked. He realized this was going to be hard enough without having Nikolas looking on. He had to do this alone without everyone watching him. "Sure," Luke said, and he and Lucky disappeared inside the office. Lizzie grabbed Nikolas by the arm and demanded, "What is wrong?" "I don't know all of it myself. I noticed that Lucky wasn't with the girls so I went looking for him. I saw him and Laura outside. She grabbed him and start shoving him down the street and not very gently. I stopped her and I saw a very different Laura in her eyes. Lucky just went inside and I told her off. I found Lucky in the back hallway, really shaken up and he told me some stuff," Nikolas said. "What stuff?" Sonny asked. He had just left Mac's office, where he learned what Mac had found out and what they were planning to do about it. "That when Luke wasn't around Laura was different person. She bullied Lucky. I asked if she hit him and he said some times," Nikolas said. "Shit," Sonny muttered. He realized this was worse than they had first thought. "Call Mac, It is time we told Luke the truth," Sean said. "We can't let that boy go anywhere near his mother." Sonny grabbed the phone from behind the bar and called Mac. He wanted to order his men to shoot her on sight but he also knew it wasn't going to do any good. The teens looked at Sonny and Sean and wondered what was going on. Lizzie stood by the office door and waited for Lucky to come out. She wanted to go inside and comfort him but she also knew he had to do this alone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "What's wrong?" Luke asked, sitting down in his chair. "I don't know if I can do this," Lucky said, as he sat in the other chair. "Talk to me. You know can tell me anything," Luke said, as he leaned forward. "I can hardly admit this to myself, let alone to you," Lucky said, as he got up and turned his back on Luke. "Cowboy, look at me," Luke said, getting up and walked toward his son. Lucky turned around and faced his father, "What is wrong?" Luke asked, really beginning to worry. "I lied to you about not remembering what happened when I was kidnapped. I do remember and I didn't tell you because it would cause trouble and I didn't want to be trouble," Lucky said, as tears fell from his eyes. Luke guided him to the couch and said, "You aren't trouble. Who put this idea in Your head?" "Mom," Lucky said flatly. "What?" Luke said, shocked and surprised at his son's words. "Ok, start from the beginning and tell me what you are talking about." Lucky took a deep breath and started to talk. "You remember right before I was kidnapped, we almost were caught by Frank Smith's men because of me. Well, Mom decided I would be better off without you and her. She took me to this orphanage and dropped me off. She said I was causing too much trouble and it was better this way," Lucky said, not looking at his father as he spoke. "She what?" Luke said, his blood starting to boil. He remembered Laura running in from shopping, crying, saying someone had grabbed Lucky. They spent three months of hell looking for him and to find out Laura knew where he was all this time, really got to him. "Did they hurt you?" Luke asked. "No. The priest was nice and I even made some friends. I saw the flyer you all had posted with me on it, and I recognized the store it said I was taken from. So, I snuck out of the orphanage and went back to the store and asked them to call you," Lucky said. "I thought she changed her mind and wanted me back. She just didn't know how to tell you what she did. I just wanted to come back home." "Why didn't you tell me?" Luke asked putting a hand under Lucky's chin and turning his head in his direction. "After everyone left me alone and you left to talk to cops. Mom said, if I kept my mouth shut and didn't cause any more trouble, she would let me stick around, but I had to straighten up and stop being so much trouble. I started to copy you and tried my best. I didn't want to be left again. I was so afraid of being left again that I refused to sleep alone. I knew that you wouldn't let her just walk away and leave me," Lucky said, still not looking Luke right in the face. "Lucky, I would have never left you. I would have left her if I had known about this," Luke said, pulling him closer. "There's more. You see, when Laura was around you she was fine but when we were alone, she wasn't so nice. It was like she was two people. I tried not to make her mad but it didn't work sometimes. She ended up slapping me around and saying that if you would let her, the next stop would be my last," Lucky said, as he looked in his father's eyes. Luke's face was masked in disbelief. "What? I'll kill her. Lucky, she hit you?" Luke asked, trying to calm down but it wasn't working. "Yes, but not often. I wasn't beaten like you were as a kid. It was only when you went to lead Frank's men away from us. I started hiding from her until you got back," Lucky said. "I don't care how or why she hit you. No one deserves to be hit. Don't compare my life to yours. We are totally different people. You understand?" Luke said, trying to calm down at least for Lucky's sake. "Yes," Lucky said softly. Luke slowly rocked Lucky back and forth and let him cry. Luke's mind was racing but he knew he had to take care of Lucky first and Laura last. They had sat in the dark office for a very long time. Mac knocked on the door and walked in. "Luke, I have talk to you," he said as he walked into the room. "Later, Bubba," Luke growled. "Now, I know what is wrong with Laura or I think I do," Mac said. "Lucky, can you go out and stay with Tiffany and your Aunt Bobbie? I called them and I told them what is going on. I need to talk to your father," Mac said, as he helped Lucky to his feet. Lucky just walked out of the room, empty and lifeless. "I don't want to hear anything about Laura. I have heard enough," Luke said picking up a bottle and pouring himself a drink. "I know what Nikolas told me and I bet Lucky's story was worse. I have been digging in your past and learned about the orphanage," Mac said. Luke turned around and glared at him with cold eyes. "How? I just found out myself," Luke said. "Laura Spencer loves her son but Lasha Cassadine wants him out of her life," Mac said flatly, handing Luke some papers. Luke grabbed the papers, and read them over. "What is this?" Luke demanded after he was done reading. "Laura is suffering from DID. She has a spilt personality. For how long, I don't know but she had it when you were on the run. The pattern is simple. When you are in her life, Laura is in control but when you're not, she loses it. Lasha is the one that loves Stefan and the one that wrote the letters. I have been talking to Leslie and she has been telling me a lot of things. Lasha wouldn't hurt Lulu because she believes she is Stefan's child and not yours. Lasha hates you with a passion and wants you and Lucky dead. Leslie took Laura's journals and read them. It told of her about Lasha's plot to kill Lucky and drive you over the edge. Lasha is the one that planted the bomb and tried to kill Lucky," Mac said. Luke slowly lowered himself to his chair, as he let his drink drop to the ground. "You sure?" Luke finally asked. "Yes. I didn't tell you before, because I wanted to solidify our evidence. I'm sorry, Luke. I don't know what to say. I thought if I dug enough that I would find evidence that would implicate Helena," Mac said and put a hand on his shoulder. "Get out. I need to be alone," Luke said in a cold voice. "I'll be right outside," Mac said and he walked out of the room and left Luke alone. Luke started to rip and tear his office apart. Bobbie tried to go in but Sonny stopped her. He knew Luke need to blow off his anger before dealing with any of this. He looked at Lucky who was starring at the noise in the office, with wide eyes. "Johnny, take Lucky back to penthouse and make sure he isn't alone," Sonny said. "Sure, boss. Come on kid," Johnny said, as he wrapped an arm around Lucky. Lizzie, Sly, Emily, and Nikolas walked behind them. Bobbie watched them go and looked at Sonny. "You'll stay with Luke?" Bobbie asked. "Go to take care of the kid. I got Luke," Sonny said. Bobbie soon left with Tiffany. She had sent Carly to the penthouse with the children earlier. Bobbie knew things were bad but she never dreamed it was this bad. Sonny picked up a bottle as something else crashed against the door. "He have any guns in there?" Mac asked as Sonny poured him drink. "I don't think we have to worry about him leaving. I have five men in the ally so he will not go out the back way. He has to come out here sooner or later," Sonny said. "I have someone picking up Laura now. I couldn't take the chance of her getting near Lucky again. I just wish this could be different," Mac said as he took a long drink. "I do too, for all their sakes. Lucky doesn't know yet. Who is going to tell him?" Sonny asked. "If Bobbie doesn't, then I guess Luke will," Mac said. "I thought this was a joke and we would find out that was Laura was set up. I never dreamed she was this sick," Sean said, grabbing the bottle and pouring another drink. "Mac, how did you find out about Laura's other personality?" "I talked to Laura's doctor in Switzerland after I talked to Leslie," Mac said. "What? Laura's doctor?" Sonny wondered looking at Mac with a shocked look on his face. "Laura, put herself under a doctor's care in Switzerland. The doctor was away when Luke came and got her. Laura never wanted him to know and she thought she was well enough to deal with everything. She even left the doctor a message about where she was going. The doctor didn't worry about it too much because Laura would be away from Lucky. She was on her way here to check on things when I called her," Mac said. "How many personalities?" Sonny asked. "Three so far. Laura's doctor is on the way here now, to deal with Lasha. She says without Luke in Laura's life that Lasha has more power to take over. I just got off the phone with her when you called," Mac said looking at Sonny. "She never told Luke. Why not?" Sean asked, still having trouble understanding all of this. "I don't know. You have to ask the doctor or Laura that if we get a hold of her. I do know that Lasha is a great liar and isn't to be trusted. The doctor was surprised that Lasha talked to Gail. She thought it was one of the other personalities asking for help but not knowing how," Mac said. "How did you know about Gail?" Sonny asked. "I know about the tapes as well, Sonny. V is a better detective than anyone on my force," Mac said with a sly smile on his face. He couldn't wait to see if V could bring down Sonny or Jason but right now the Spencers were his main concern. "I have to get that girl on the pay roll," Sonny said in a joking tone of voice. "I'll ignore that comment," Mac said and looked up when he realized that Luke hadn't made a sound of at least five minutes. Luke walked out of his office and looked like hell. Mac, Sonny, and Sean watched in silence as Luke walked behind the bar and poured himself a drink. "Where is the kid?" Luke asked in detached voice. "At the penthouse with Bobbie," Sonny said. "Good. Laura?" Luke asked still trying to stop shaking but he just couldn't do it at the moment. He felt every nerve in his body take hold and not let go. "We have her in jail until the DA, her lawyer, and her doctor figure out what to do about her. I do know she will be locked up for a long time. How long is up to the DA but I think he will take into account that she is sick and needs help," Mac said looking from Sean and Sonny back to Luke. None of them had ever seen him in this shape and they didn't know how to handle it. Before anyone could say anything else, the door opened and Ruby walked in. "I'll deal with my nephew," Ruby said and all of them left but Luke and Ruby. Ruby popped her head in his office and noticed the mess. "I see you let off steam. You feel better?" She asked slowly walking toward him. "No. I still don't know what to think. I feel like the world has crashed around me and I can't breath," Luke said as Ruby helped him to a stool and he clasped on to it. "You have to get yourself moving again. You have two kids that need their father and need him now," Ruby said making Luke look at her. "How do I do that when I learned my wife is what, two people? Ruby, how did I miss it?" Luke asked her. "We all missed it and most certainly, Laura missed it," Ruby said placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. She sat down and was planning to stick around and talk it out until he was ready to deal with things again.
