Chapter 38 Robin banged on Stella’s thin apartment door. “Open up! Stella, I know you’re in there so open this door!” She shouted. Stella’s sister yanked open the door, the ever-present cigarette hanging from her lips. “What do you want?” She muttered. “I want to know how Jason knows *her* name.” She pointed at Stella who was sitting on the couch in the small living room. Stella shrunk back and blanched in fear. “And didn’t I say no smoking? I won’t have this baby coming out deformed. It must be perfect!” Robin reached up and snatched the cigarette out of her mouth, dropped to the ground and grounded it out with her heel. She then pushed past the woman and stormed into the apartment. She propped her hands up on her hips. “What happened?” Stella slowly stood up. She knew she couldn’t mess this up. Robin was her only chance to give her baby a better life…and to make a little cash. “Robin, I’m so sorry.” “What happened!” Robin growled. “If you missed this up for me you can forget about the whole deal.” “I didn’t know Mr. Morgan was going to be at Mercy. Hospital.” Stella quickly defended herself. “My sister, Jackie, and I were there just for my check up and we bumped into him. It was an accident.” “It doesn’t explain how he knows of our connection.” Robin folded her arms and glared at Stella. Jackie muffled a laugh at how that little Robin chick was trying to intimidate her sister. Unfortunately it looked liked it was working. Stella gulped and wrung her hands together. “Jackie and I were just talking about the baby’s sex, we found out what is it by the way, and I may have said your name… right before I walked into him. He could have heard us. We were talking pretty loudly.” Robin sneered. “Because of your big mouth everything could be ruined.” “Robin, I…” Stella started to apologize again but Robin cut her off. “What’s the baby’s sex?” She was eager to know and mentally crossed her fingers. Please let it be the right one, she thought to herself, please. Stella’s eyes brightened. She knew this news would make her happy. “You’ll be very happy to know that in a few weeks you will have a baby… boy.” Robin smiled slowly. This was perfect, absolutely perfect. “This is going to make Jason so happy.” Jackie frowned at the sick smile on Robin’s face. What a wacko, she thought. There is something very wrong with this girl. Good thing she had a load of cash, Jackie smirked. ~*~*~ Emily shifted as she tried to make herself comfortable. She was getting a crick in her neck from the position she had been sleeping in. She bumped her hand against the mattress and sent a shot a pain through her arm. “Ow! Ow, ow, ow.” She muttered. She looked up to see if Nikolas had woken up. Thankful he was still asleep. She knew that he needed the sleep. He had looked so tired when they were talking. She hated the fact that she caused him a lack of sleep. Emily sighed over the worry she had caused him and everyone else. If only she hadn’t gotten in that car. Emily sighed again. It was too late for if onlys. It happened and now it was time to get on with life. She snuggled back up to him and closed her eyes. In his sleep Nikolas threw his arm back around her waist and pulled her back to him. “Emily?” A voice whispered. Emily’s eyes flew open. Oh no, she thought. She said it out loud. “Oh, no.” “Emily, are you awake?” The voice whispered again. No, no, no, no, she repeated in her head, not now! She rolled over and frowned up at Tino. “What are you doing here? Get out.” She whispered furiously. Tino didn’t move. He stood over her bed looking down at the two of them. He frowned at the cute image they made. “I need to talk to you.” “Well, you can’t do it now.” Emily quickly looked at Nikolas to make sure he was still sleeping. Luckily he was. “If Nikolas wakes up and finds you in here, he’s… he’s going to kill you. So go! Now!” “He already tried.” Tino said sarcastically. He absentmindedly touched the nose Nikolas had broken last night. His sister Marisa wanted to press charges against him and Emily’s brother but he convinced her not too. “He’ll do worse than that if he sees you.” Emily assured him. At the moment she didn’t care what happened to Tino but she didn’t want Nikolas getting upset and fighting. “Look, I just want to say I’m sorry alright?” Tino said in a rush. “You’re sorry, I’m sorry, we’re all sorry.” Emily snapped. “Anything else?” “I wanted to apologize for doing,” Tino gestured towards all her bandages, “this to you. I shouldn’t have driven last night. It was wrong.” “What was wrong was that no one stopped you from driving.” Emily said quietly. “How is everyone else?” “They’re fine. Just bruised and all scratched up. You and Dominic got hurt the most. He broke his leg.” Tino rubbed the back of his neck and looked down. “So I…” “You said your piece so could you please leave?” She said softly. “I… okay.” Tino nodded. “I just hope I can see you again soon.” “I wouldn’t count on that.” Emily said bitterly as she watched him turn and walk out the door. She closed her eyes and snuggled back up to Nikolas who started to wake up. Nikolas yawned loudly. “Who are you talking to?” He covered his mouth with the back of his hand as he yawned again. “Oh, nobody.” Emily instantly denied. She was so thankful he hadn’t woken up when Tino was there. “So, how did you sleep? Nikolas stretched. “Mmm, pretty good. I think it was your presence.” He winked at her. Emily rolled her eyes. “Don’t get all sappy on me now.” She hit him lightly in the shoulder. “Ow.” He faked a wince and rubbed his shoulder. “You don’t want me to end up in the room next to yours do you?” “Well, that way I wouldn’t be the only one in the hospital… Hmm.” Nikolas started to get up. “Well, while you think it over I have to get going.” “Where are you going?” Emily immediately asked. “I have some things to take care of but I will be back.” He promised. “I’ll try and see if I can sneak a TV and VCR in here. You know, use my connections, as Carly would say. A movie and some popcorn, what do you say?” Emily brightened. “I say that would be great.” “And I remember the rules. No documentaries and…” “No gross out comedies.” She finished for him. Nikolas nodded. “Right. So, I’ll see you later. I love you.” He bent his head to give her a kiss. “Nicky, Nicky, taking advantage of a girl laid up in a bed? Tsk, tsk.” Carly joked from the door. Carly had finally gotten around to coming to Emily’s room. After her run-in with AJ she had decided to walk around for a little while before checking on them. “I was just on my way out.” Nikolas said to her. He kissed Emily goodbye and headed for the door. “On your way could you tell Jason to come in? He’s down the hall, thanks Nicky.” Carly didn’t wait for him to answer before sitting in the chair by the bed. Nikolas shrugged and waved goodbye to Emily before leaving. She waved back. “Well, that’s a pretty big goofy grin on your face.” Carly remarked. “You enjoying that cast that much or does that smile have to do with a certain young Mr. Cassadine who just walked out the door?” Emily rolled her eyes. “Well, duh.” “I am so glad the two of you stop messing around and just went for it.” “You can blame Nikolas for that. He was the one having trouble with his feelings, not me.” Emily pointed out. “Then can I just ask you a question? If you’re so gaga over Nikolas, what were you doing in a car with Tino last night?” Emily looked down at the bed. “Some stuff came up during our session yesterday. Stuff about the reason Tino tried to commit suicide. Me being the unselfish type thought he shouldn’t be alone so I decided we should hang out. I should have just left him alone and went out with Nikolas like I had planned to.” “You were just being nice, Emily. You had no idea the night would have ended up the way it did.” “Yeah, I guess… you know let’s talk about something a little more cheerful.” Emily suggested. “Hmm, how about the fact that… I moved back in with Jason?” Carly grinned. “You did! When?” “We started today. Let me tell you I have a lot to do to that place. It just screams Robin.” Carly made a face. *~*~* Jason checked his watch again. It was taking a very long time for Carly to grab a cup of coffee and get to Emily’s room. He was about to give up and go see for himself when his cell phone rang. He quickly answered it. “Morgan.” “Mr. Morgan, sir? I have the information that you wanted.” Jason sat back in his seat. “Go ahead.” “So far Miss Scorpio has visited a woman named Stella. She seemed to be very upset with this Stella woman. She mentioned your name and a baby.” “Me and a baby?” Jason said more to himself than to the man on the line. “Yes sir, a baby. Miss Scorpio left soon after that looking very happy. Right she’s shopping in the baby’s section of Wyndhams.” “Okay. Keep an eye on her for a while.” Jason told him. “I want her watched a little longer.” “Will do, sir.” The man answered before hanging up. Jason rubbed his face wearily. He had a lot to think over. What was Robin doing with a baby and what did it have to do with him? Jason didn’t have long to ponder the situation because a few minutes later Nikolas came by and told him it was okay for him to go see Emily. So he went off to visit with his sister and put all thoughts of Robin and a baby behind him for a while. ~*~*~ A Few Days Later “I’m busting ya out!” Nikolas announced as he burst into Emily’s room. He wore a huge silly smile on his face and he carried a duffel bag. He dropped it by the door. Emily looked up from the fashion magazine that Liz had brought her the other day. “Okay.” She went back to her article. Nikolas frowned. “ ‘Okay’? That’s it? I tell you, you’re going home and all you say is ‘okay’?” He crossed the room and sat down on the bed beside her. Emily shrugged and buried her nose in the magazine. Nikolas reached over, grabbed the magazine out of her hands and threw it behind him. “Hey, I was reading that.” Emily protested. “It had a really good article about skinny heels versus chunky.” Nikolas looked into her eyes. “Are you seriously trying to tell me that you’re more excited about shoes than you are about getting out of here and going home?” The corners of her mouth quirked upwards. She looked down at the bed sheet. “Well, it did have some very cute pictures…” He smirked lightly and lifted her chin up so he could look at her again. “Emily…” Emily finally gave up and grinned. “Okay! I was just messing with you. I can’t wait to get out of here. I know you and Lucky and Liz and everyone tried to make my stay here as comfortable as possible but it’s been hell. If the food doesn’t kill me, Amy coming in every other hour to chat will. I hate being in this damn bed.” “And I hate seeing you in it. If it was up to me, you will never see the inside of a hospital again.” Nikolas said seriously then he smiled. “But you’re in luck because like I said before I’m taking you home. I even brought you a change of clothing.” “Are you sneaking me out?” Emily arched her eyebrow and threw her free arm around his neck, pulling him closer to her. “That is so cool.” Nikolas gave her a quick kiss then shook his head. “Sorry to disappoint you but you are being discharged today and I was able to… convince your family to let me be the one to bring you home.” “So you’re not a no good rebel, huh?” Emily faked a frown. “Oh well, I still love you anyway. How on earth did you ‘convince my family’?” “I just pointed out the fact that you were going home to them and the least they could do was let me pick you up.” “Very calmly and with no shouting right?” She asked doubtfully. “I have my ways okay?” “Right… so what time do I get out of here?” “Any time you’re ready.” He told her. Emily beamed at him. “I’m ready right now! Let’s go.” She threw back the covers and jumped out of bed. “Hold on, you can’t leave just yet.” Said a voice from the door. It was Emily’s doctor, Dr. Faber. Emily halted in her dash for the duffel bag. “What?” Nikolas got off the bed slowly. “Is there something wrong Dr. Faber? I was assured that all the papers were signed and everything was in order.” The doctor shook her head. “Everything is fine. I just have to take off that last bandage first.” Just yesterday Emily had the large one on her head taken off. Emily had joked that she would miss it. Lucky called her the “Great Swami” and made her tell his fortune every time he and Liz dropped in to visit. Emily sighed in relief. “I thought you were going to try and hold me here a few more nights.” Emily hopped back on the bed and tilted her face up. “Unwrap me, doc.” Nikolas hovered by nervously. He knew that Emily was afraid that she would end up scarred from the accident. Her other cuts and bruises were beginning to heal but this was the first time he would get to see the cut under the bandage. He breathed a sigh of relief when he finally saw it. “So… how bad is it?” Emily asked anxiously. “Would you like to see?” Dr. Faber asked as she slathered an ointment on Emily’s face. “Yes…” Emily answered hesitantly. The doctor pulled a small mirror out of her pocket and held it up for Emily to see. Emily touched her right cheek in wonder. “It’s… its not that bad.” She grinned at Nikolas. “It’s not that bad, it’s kinda cool, I guess.” The scar started up high on her cheek and zigzagged downwards like a lighting bolt. It was pink so Emily could tell it was healing and it wasn’t that long. Emily was just glad that it wasn’t as horrible as she thought. “Just put this ointment on your face three times a day and come back in four weeks.” The doctor advised. She gave Emily the ointment. “After four weeks come back and we’ll see how your face is doing. And if you like we can talk about performing surgery to see what we can do with that scar. We might not be able to completely remove it but we can make considerably less noticeable.” Emily beamed. “Thanks Dr. Faber.” “You’re welcome.” Smiled the doctor. “I’ll see you at your follow up.” Emily waited until the doctor was out the door before jumping off the bed and dancing around with happiness. She pointed at her face. “Do you see? Do you see my face? It isn’t ruined!” “I can see that. I told you, you had nothing to worry about.” He came over and kissed her scar. “You’re still beautiful even though this ointment tastes horrible.” He made a face at the taste. Emily giggled and twirled around. “I’m going home, I’m not a disfigured monster and I am with the boy I love.” “And the back of your gown is open.” Nikolas couldn’t help pointing out. She gasped. She turned back around and pulled together the ends of the hospital gown. “Thanks for telling me!” Nikolas fought back a laugh. He reached down and picked up the duffel bag again. “If you don’t feel like wearing that home, you do have the option of what’s in the bag. Jeans, tank top, sneakers, they’re all here. Would you like some help?” He arched his eyebrow. “I can put on jeans and underwear just fine with one hand.” Emily said primly. “You did get me underwear right?” “I don’t know, let me check.” Nikolas grinned wickedly as he started to unzip the bag. Emily reached out and grabbed the bag out of his hands. “I’ll check myself.” She carried it into the small bathroom connected to her room. Nikolas listened as she fought to get herself dressed using only one hand. He could hear her mutter a couple of times. “Are you sure you don’t need any help in there?” He offered helpfully. “I’m fine.” Emily gritted out. The damn shirt was what was taking her so long. It took her a while but she was able to struggle into it and her underwear, socks, jeans and sneakers. She emerged from the bathroom with a big smile and shouted. “Ta-da!” Nikolas applauded slowly. “Ready to go home?” “As ready as I’ll ever be. Wait, there’s one more thing.” Emily came over to Nikolas and pulled him down for a long kiss. Standing back she then said. “Okay, now I’m ready.” *~*~* Emily walked into the Quartermaine Mansion feeling giddy. It was good to be home. She couldn’t wait to sleep in her own bed, eat food she wanted, and be able to choose when she had to be around her family. At the moment she couldn’t wait to see them. But no one was there waiting for her. She turned to Nikolas with a worried frown. “Where is everyone?” Nikolas only shrugged in reply. Emily turned back and cried. “Hello, people, I’m home!” The door to the den slowly opened and out stepped the last person Emily had thought she would see. “Welcome home Emily.” She gaped in surprise. “Dad!”
